Even heard of Rafa Nadal? Even if you aren't a tennis fan, you must have…
Poker is a game of luck, but there is only so much that luck will do for you in a game. In order to be successful, you will have to put your chips on the line and make a bluff. In almost every single hand, there will be someone bluffing, as some point. A bluff is basically when you try to steal a pot; even though you think you have the weakest hand (you might have the strongest hand).
Bluffs will vary based on the way an individual plays. Experience will tell you which bluffs work and which ones don’t (in general). The only way to craft a perfect strategy that includes bluffs is to actually try it out first hand. Of course, you will adapt the way you bluff based on a range of factors. For instance, if you have a short chip stack, most people will know you are bluffing to steal the blinds. If you have a large chip stack, then it is likely that you will be able to take a lot of pots down by being the “bully”.
One method of bluffing is to play your hands aggressively, but in general play tight. So only play a few hands and when you have a good one, commit a decent amount of chips. Players will see that you have a good hand. Next time you want to bluff, they will be afraid of playing against you, as they will assume that you have a great hand.
